From the posting on EBay: I have heard them called "Poacher's Rods" for obvious reasons. Probably British in origin, but no markings I can find. Handle grip appears to be nickel silver covered with very worn leather. The shaft of the walking cane slips off to reveal a collapsing rod. I have not attempted to open rod to it's full length, so no guarantee that it will work easily. You will probably need to do a little work on it, but it is a rare piece. Rod guides appear to be frozen in place but I think they can be twisted into position.
“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wildness is necessity; that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.”
